The small Post-War 1 1/2-Storey House - Part Two
Subsequent to my previous post: The small Post-War 1 1/2-Storey House - Part One, I felt that I needed a follow-up to share more information that I have come across and to share some additional floor plans.

Some More Layout Variations:
As I mentioned in my previous post, there are many 1 1/s-storey designs in the CMHC plan books. I wanted to share some more that I have seen in and around Ottawa. As with my previous post, the date of the plan is indicated below and the source for the corresponding date is as follows:
1947 - 67 Homes for Canadians, CMHC
1949 - Small House Designs: One-and-a-half Storey, CMHC
1950 - Small House Designs: One-and-a-half Storey, CMHC
1952 - Small House Designs: 1 1/2 Storey, CMHC
1954 - Small House Designs: two-storey and 1 1/2-half storey houses, CMHC
1958 - Small House Designs, CMHC
Layout 11:
The design has a small projection with the gable roof facing the front. Two bedrooms on the first floor and two on the second. Separate living and dining room and kitchen at the back. A space on the second floor was designed to be ready for a bathroom.
1947
1952
1954
Layout 12:
Another design that has a projection with the gable roof facing the front. Two bedrooms on the first floor and a large room on the second floor. The dining room is in the centre at the back of the house.
1947
1949
1950
1952
1952
Layout 13:
A compact plan with one bedroom (or dining room) on the first floor and two bedrooms on the second floor. Front kitchen. The layout suggests an extension for 2 additional bedrooms at the back.
1947
Layout 14:
A very compact plan with an unusually open concept layout for the time featuring an open kitchen with a curtain to enclose it. The second floor was originally unfinished with room for 2 bedrooms.
1947
Layout 15:
Central entry with the eat-in kitchen at the back. A flexible room at the back could be a bedroom or office. Two bedrooms and a future bath on the second floor.
1947
Layout 16:
One of very few 1 1/2-storey plans published by CMHC with an attached garage. The living room and dining room are a the front and there is one bedroom on the first floor. Two bedrooms are located on the second floor.
1952
1954
Layout 17:
A variation of Layout 16, but with 3 bedrooms on the second floor.
1952
1954
1958
Teron Plans:
I also wanted to include some of the Teron designs for 1 1/2-storey houses that were built in Beaverbrook and Qualicum. They are larger variations of the earlier designs. As was common with 1 1/2-storey designs, teron also phased out these plans with time as they became less popular.
