Campeau's Cluster Homes

Campeau's Cluster Homes A special thank you to a reader for inspiring me to write this post and for sending me the old photo above and ad below from the Ottawa Citizen. When:  Built as rentals in the late 1960s and early 1970s, then converted to for-purchase houses in the 1990s. Where:  Leslie Park: along Monterey Drive, Costello Avenue and Baseline Road; Redwood Park: along Cornell Street, Draper Avenue and Morrison Drive; Riverside Park South: along Provost Drive and Walkley Road. Here is a map I created showing the areas where these houses are located:  https://www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=16Im3DfzN--9DRbS2GIvVmTSsy3MailxK&usp=sharing What I Know:  The houses in Leslie Park along Baseline Road and Monterey Drive are the most traditional in style, while the houses along Costello Avenue are slightly different from the others in exterior design sporting more contemporary-inspired facades. Different colours, textures/materials and window composition gives...

Campeau Executive Series

Campeau Executive Series When:  The brochure does not have a date, but these particular models were built in the late 1960s-early 1970s. I suspect that this brochure is from around 1970.  Where:  These plans were built in a number of neighbourhoods including: Arlington Woods, Beacon Hill, Hunt Club Chase, Leslie Park, Rothwell Village and South Keys Village.    What I Know:   The second page below is an index, but alas, I only have copies of the Executive Series plans from what appears to be a larger booklet. Some of the models listed in the index are rare designs that I do not have the plans for, such as those in the Semi-Custom, Kingston and Canadiana Series. I wish I had a better copy (and a full version) of this booklet, but this is all I have for the moment!

Campeau in Playfair Park and Leslie Park c. 1964

Campeau in Playfair Park and Leslie Park When:  The price sheet that I have for this series is from 1964. Where:  The Leslie Park area is located southwest of Baseline Road and Greenbank Road. This series of houses are located on the part of the neighbourhood along Greenbank Road. Playfair Park is located along Playfair Drive north of Kilborn Avenue. Some of the plans were also built around McCarthy Road south of Walkley Road in Riverside Park South. What I Know:  Only a limited number of this series of plans were built in Playfair Park, although Campeau built other designs in the area. This series was short-lived in comparison to other designs by the builder that continued to be built over many years. The B-190 plan won a Canadian Housing Design award as shown in the pages below.
